Reverse Lookup

How far is a specific date from today?

Dates are calculated using your device's local clock. Month/year math follows calendar rules (e.g. Jan 31 + 1 month = Feb 28/29). For informational purposes only.

How Date Math Works

Adding days to a date sounds simple — and for small numbers it is. The complications start when you cross month boundaries (months have different lengths), year boundaries (leap years add a day in February), and when you need to distinguish between calendar days and business days.

This calculator adds calendar days, not business days. If you need business day counting — skipping weekends and holidays — use the Business Days Calculator instead. For most deadline and planning purposes, calendar days are what you want.

Month-End Edge Cases

The January 31 problem: Add 1 month to January 31st. February doesn't have 31 days, so the result is February 28th (or 29th in leap years). This is "calendar month" math — the last valid day of the resulting month is used. Not all calculators handle this the same way.
Leap year awareness: Add 365 days to February 28, 2024 (a leap year). The result is February 27, 2025 — not February 28th — because 2024 has 366 days and you're jumping to a non-leap year. Adding "1 year" vs "365 days" gives different results in years surrounding leap years.

Frequently Asked Questions

What date is 30 days from today?

Enter 30 in the Days field above and click Calculate — the tool will give you the exact date. As a rough guide: 30 days from any date lands in the same month if the date is on or before the 1st, or one month later if you're deeper into the month. For example, 30 days from May 19 = June 18.

What's the difference between "days from today" and "business days from today"?

Calendar days count every single day including weekends and holidays. Business days only count Monday through Friday, skipping weekends and sometimes federal holidays. A "net-30" payment term in a contract usually means 30 calendar days; a "10 business days" shipping window skips weekends. When in doubt, check which type is specified.

How do I calculate 90 days from a specific past date?

Use the "Calculate age as of" date field to set a custom start date instead of today. Enter your start date in the first field and the target date in the second field, and the calculator will show the difference. Alternatively, use the Days Between Dates mode to count days between any two dates.

Is a "month" always 30 days for contract purposes?

No — contractual months typically mean calendar months, not 30 days. A 1-month period starting February 1st ends on March 1st (28 or 29 days), while a 1-month period starting January 1st ends on February 1st. Only if a contract specifically says "30-day month" does the math simplify to exactly 30 days. This distinction matters for rent, leases, and loan payment dates.

How many days are in a year?

A standard (non-leap) year has 365 days. A leap year has 366 days (February gets a 29th day). Leap years occur every 4 years, except for century years that aren't divisible by 400 — so 2000 was a leap year, but 1900 was not. The average calendar year is 365.2425 days, which is why we occasionally need to add a leap second to keep atomic clocks aligned with Earth's rotation.
